Cocoa Beach is a city in Brevard Canton, Florida, United States. The population was 11,539 at the 2018 Us Census.^[4] It is part of the Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History [edit]

The first non-native settlement in the surface area was by a family of freed slaves following the American Civil War. In 1888, a group of men from Cocoa bought the entire tract of land, which went undeveloped until information technology was bought out in 1923 by a fellow member of the group—Gus Edwards, Cocoa's city attorney. At that time, Edwards' total holdings included approximately 600 acres (240 ha). He stopped practicing constabulary to devote all his efforts to developing the area.^{[v] [6] [vii]}

Prior to incorporation, the area was known as Oceanus.^[8] The Town of Cocoa Embankment was established on June 5, 1925. Cocoa Beach's first official meeting was held at the Cocoa Beach Casino on July 27, 1925, and adopted the City Seal.^[nine] Gus C. Edwards was elected ^[nine] as mayor and served equally a commissioner forth with J.A. Haisten, and R.Z. Grabel. A trivial less than a calendar month later, plans for a pier became official.

Cocoa Embankment is run by a Commission-Managing director government, agreed to by its citizens in 1958. The City Commission acts as the legislative branch of the city government, guided by the provisions of the Charter of the Metropolis of Cocoa Embankment. The Metropolis Committee enacts ordinances and resolutions that the City Manager administers as the appointed executive officer of the city government.^[27]

The city owns and runs the Cocoa Embankment State Club, a golf game course on the Banana River.^{[28] [29]}
